In January 2021 a small group of volunteers set up points in Kingsfold and Warnham to collect specific single-use plastics for recycling. The bins at Warnham Village Hall and the Owl pub were supplied by Horsham District Council and signage was funded by a grant from Warnham Parish Council.

Where does it all go?

The initiative is part of Sussex Green Living’s scheme based in Horsham which is in turn registered with Terracyle UK Ltd. Several local ‘Wombling’ sites have been set up in villages in the Horsham area, where difficult-to-recycle flexible plastics are collected, sorted and brought to the Horsham hub, where they are packaged and sent to Terracycle.

Not just any old plastic!

It’s really important to pay attention to what can go to the Womble bins, and not to assume that all your plastic rubbish can be processed this way! However, there are many items not accepted in your Blue kerbside recycling bin which can now be recycled, thanks to Terracycle – see the list below.

Volunteers please

There are at present half a dozen of us on the team who share sorting the recycling, and we are very keen to recruit more helpers. It means no more than an hour a week and most tasks can be undertaken at a time and place of your choosing.
