The Arun & Chichester Food Partnership was set up in November 2020 with the initial aims of alleviating the rising food poverty in the region and tackling its root causes. It has since broadened its reach to explore wider food systems issues, with a vision for:
- No one to go hungry.
- Everyone to have access to good quality food.
- People to grow, share and learn together to create skilled, fulfilled and nourished communities.
- A real commitment to reduce the environmental impact of food production, procurement, consumption and waste.
There are two part-time Development Officers hosted by Citizens Advice Arun & Chichester. You can contact Regi or Beth by emailing foodpartnership@arunchichestercab.org.uk.
The partnership brings together voluntary and community sector organisations and local authorities. The group is currently chaired by Pam Bushby (Chichester District Council) and Jane Haskins (Clarion).
Past work has included bringing together local food provision projects to improve the sharing of resources and support, creating a directory and map of local services, and creating a cash-first leaflet supported by the Independent Food Aid Network.

Can you help get food to people in Chichester District who are struggling?
The Arun & Chichester Food Partnership has grants available (up to £2000 each) to increase the amount of free food available for people struggling.
The Partnership has already awarded funds to projects in Arun and are now looking for more initiatives that could help provide more food to the community in Chichester. Applicants have included schools, charities and community organisations. Projects could be new or extending existing local food projects.
Here are some that have been successful and a few other ideas we have:
- Piloting providing free school meals to children whose families are struggling but aren’t entitled to them (in term time or over Easter holidays)
- Buying additional food for meet increased demand
- Pilot of extending hours for free food provision
- Boxes of food to be given or delivered as needed to people accessing service from a charity
- Providing free hot meals in a community space or warm space
- Piloting a collection point in an underserved neighbourhood
- Piloting a breakfast club or after school food club, with free food for struggling families
- Purchase of culturally specific food
- Cookery classes with a shared meal and/or food to take away
Deadline 6 April 2023. The funds have been provided by Chichester District Council.
